1. Introduction
Trill is a kind of expressive technique in music. Various types of trills can create different musical effects, such as, gentle, lyric, melancholic, or strenuous music atmosphere. Hence, this technique is frequently used in playing instruments, such as, wind instruments (the tremolo skill in playing flute) or stringed instruments (the string-slide skill in playing violin).
In this article, we’ll introduce how to edit the trill of MIDI in AM4F.
2. Editing Trills in MIDI
In MIDI, you can edit trill effects by adjusting the value of 1-Modulation in controller. And you can adjust the parameter of Modulation event with the range from 0 to 127. Through setting different parameters, you can attain different trill effects.

The trill effect function has been added in EzMusician 4F v2.1 or latter versions. So you can use this function to edit the trills in MIDI. Please see the following steps: Firstly, set the parameters in Modulation event, and then use EzMusician 4F v2.1 to compile, lastly employ EzCode4F v2.1 to play MIDI with no need to set any program instruction.
3. Steps for Editing MIDI Trills in AM4F
1) Open or create a piece of MIDI, and then use Piano Roll window to edit the newly opened/created MIDI. In controller window, you can select controllers, 1-Modulation event, and the channel for trills.
2) Set trill parameters in Modulation editing window. Note that the trill parameters should be set to align with the position of note accurately, otherwise the trills are not effective.
3) You should set the parameter of trill as 0 if the trill is over. Otherwise, the previous trill may affect the latter trills of notes.
4) Add MIDI with trills and corresponding timbres by using EzMusician v2.1; and then compile it into MDB file.
5) Play the MIDI with trills in EzCode 4F v2.1
6) Adjust the depth of trills in accordance with the MIDI playing effect or your practical requirement.
